We set up a Tumblr blog. Here's why:
Addwater recently set up a Tumblr blog, or a "tumblog" as Tumblr users call it. Come on over and check it out! What is Tumblr, you ask?
Tumblr is a blogging platform that lets you effortlessly share anything.
Post text, photos, quotes, links, music, and videos, from your browser,
phone, desktop, email, or wherever you happen to be. You can customize everything, from colors, to your theme's HTML. (According to Tumblr itself.)
What that simple description of Tumblr doesn't include is that it's the most social blogging platform out there. Like Twitter, bloggers on Tumblr follow one another and "reblog" blog posts they like. They can also tag their posts with tags like #LOL and #photography, which helps users more easily discover content they'd be interested in.
Also dubbed "the easiest way to blog," blog posts on Tumblr are typically very short -- sometimes only featuring a photo and a caption. So, blogging is much more casual than the traditional content-heavy blogs.
Why Tumblr? According to NPR, the 4-year old Tumblr had more than 7 million blogs in January of 2011. Now, six months later it's up more than 21 million.
In addition, tumblogs get over 400 million pageviews each day (TechCrunch). The reason for this huge surge of blogging on Tumblr has been attributed to the social nature of Tumblr -- the fact that when you blog, you don't blog alone. Chances are someone will see your content and reblog it.
And that's why we set up our own tumblog. Check it out here, and if you're interested in setting up your own just let us know!
